Called to the Bar in 1997 and appointed King’s Counsel in 2018. He specialises exclusively in Town and Country Planning, Compulsory Purchase and Highway Law. He is widely recognised as a leading expert in all forms of residential, retail, leisure and employment development. He acts for most of the major house builders, land promoters and care sector operators and retailers, major land owners, SME builders, the leisure sector, Homes England, the NHS, schools, farmers, third party action groups and local authorities.
He has advised the No10 Policy Unit, Government and Shadow Ministers and various MPs and has been invited to appear before the Levelling-Up and Regeneration Select Committee.
Chris presently advises on numerous new settlements, dozens of major urban extensions, tall towers in London, Birmingham and Coventry, major regeneration projects, retirement villages, leisure developments, and various spatial development plans including advising Peel Holdings on its numerous Green Belt sites in the Greater Manchester Plan “Places for Everyone”.
His expertise is particularly sought after in the areas of financial viability, housing need, housing land supply, urban regeneration, highways and transport issues, landscape and heritage impact, European protected sites and species, nutrient and water neutrality issues, and development in Green Belt and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
