Cristóbal has authored several publications relevant to his areas of practice and academic activity. He is an author of the book “Cumplido Laws. Juridical Analysis of Law N° 19.407, which Modifies Multiple Statutes in Order to Ensure Greater Respect for People’s Rights” (Ed. Conosur, 1991). He is also co-author of the Chilean chapter of the book “Reform and Renewal. Current Regulatory Developments in Latin American Capital Markets” (edited by the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, 1996); of the Chilean chapter of the book “Anti-Money Laundering: International Law and Practice” (edited by Wouter H. Muller, Christian H. Kälin and John G. Goldsworth, 2007); of the article “Monopolistic Collusion, Proof of Collusion, Conduct Parallelism and Additional Factors” (published in Revista Anales Derecho UC Temas de Libre Competencia No. 2, 2008); of the article “Expansion and Limits of Objective Good Faith -in relation to the ‘Project of Latin American Principles of Contract Law’” (published in Revista Chilena de Derecho Privado, No. 11, 2013); and of the Chilean chapter of the yearbook “Americas Restructuring Review 2020” (edited by Richard J. Experience
Cristóbal Eyzaguirre has specialized in complex and multi-front litigation and arbitration in Claro & Cía., having an active practice and recognized experience as a litigator and corporate advisor in the areas of banking, finance, antitrust, capital markets and reorganizations; he is a professor of Civil Law at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, a permanent advisor to the board of the Santiago Stock Exchange, a member of the boards of the nonprofit organizations Fundación Educacional Claro Vial and Sociedad Protectora de la Infancia and a member of the Permanent Advisory Council of Universidad Católica’s Law School.
He joined Claro & Cía. in 1988. Then he worked in Shearman & Sterling, New York, between 1994 and 1995. From 1997 to December 2003 he worked in in Citigroup, where he was Managing Director, General Counsel and Compliance Director for all its operations in the 23 Latin American countries where Citigroup was present at the time (based in the U.S.).
Upon returning to Chile, he rejoined Claro & Cía. in 2004, as a partner. A few years later, Cristóbal was recognized by Revista Capital as the best attorney in the country for three consecutive years –2010 to 2012– in accordance with the ranking prepared in consultation with the legal directors of IPSA companies (i.e., the 30 largest companies listed in the Chilean stock market), which was discontinued after 2012.
Cristóbal has been recognized among the top bands of Litigation, Arbitration, Banking and Finance, Antitrust and Mergers & Acquisitions practice areas by the Chambers and Partners publication; he has also been featured in other leading specialized publications, such as Legal 500, Best Lawyers, Latin Lawyer and Who’s Who Legal.
Cristóbal Eyzaguirre, besides being Civil Law professor in Universidad Católica, was previously a professor at the LL.M. on Corporate Law programs of both Universidad Católica, where he lectured on Insolvency and Reorganizations, and Universidad de los Andes, where he lectured on Capital Markets and Corporate Governance.
