Doug is a member of Reed Smith’s Insurance Recovery Group. He has represented policyholders in complex insurance coverage disputes, including litigation, arbitration, and mediation nearly 40 years. In addition to claims for policy proceeds, he represents policyholders in bad faith claims against insurers arising from unreasonable denials of insurance and in coverage reviews and counseling.
Doug has handled matters involving all aspects of property insurance under the full spectrum of standardized and manuscript policies, including. His matters involve both primary and excess coverages.
His property insurance matters include claims regarding Hurricanes Katrina, Maria, and Sandy, fine art, mine floods, explosions, high-rise building fires, structure collapses, boiler and machinery losses, food product contamination, a glass furnace failure, and loss of a communications satellite. He also has extensive experience in international political risk claims.
He also has significant experience handling claims under general liability policies, professional and managed care errors and omissions polices, directors’ and officers’ insurance, and numerous specialty liability insurance coverages.
