Career
Eduardo is passionate about tax matters. With his advice, clients benefit from the invaluable experience he has obtained from participating in several complex transactions across various sectors and industries.
He frequently advises multinational companies on mergers and acquisitions as well as commercial and investment banks, private equity funds and pension funds. He also advises on financing and real estate transactions.
In addition, he has advised nonprofit organizations in tax compliance to ensure they receive deductible donations.
He was a tax partner at a Big Four firm and worked as a foreign associate in Patterson, Belknap, Webb & Tyler’s New York office. He was also the Vice-President of New Product Development at Merrill Lynch and worked for a Mexican law firm.
After obtaining his Law Degree, he studied a Tax Law postgraduate degree at Escuela Libre de Derecho. He completed a diploma in International Tax Law from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) and Duke University’s joint program. He also has a Finance diploma from Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM). Additionally, he holds an LL.M. in International Business Law from King’s College London where he studied with a CONACYT scholarship.
Currently, Eduardo teaches Tax Law in the postgraduate degree program at Escuela Libre de Derecho. He has been a lecturer at other universities, including ITAM, ITESM, Universidad Panamericana and Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).
He is the President for the International Tax Committee under the Mexican Institute of Public Accountants. He is also an active member of the International Fiscal Association and Tax Committee within the Mexican Private Equity Association (AMEXCAP).
Eduardo co-authored the book, Transfer Pricing Litigation: Theory and Practice, published by Lexis-Nexis, writing the chapter on Mexico. He has also authored various tax articles available in different publications. He has been a tax speaker at seminars in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and the United States.
He led the winning team for International Tax Review’s Americas Real Estate Tax Deal of the Year (2018), which involved the joint venture deal between GIC and CCLA.
He was also a member of the winning team for International Tax Review’s Americas Real Estate Tax Deal of the Year (2016), which involved Blackstone’s acquisition of Mexico’s GE Real Estate portfolio.
Eduardo is recognized as an expert attorney by the renowned international publication, The Legal 500 Latin American Guide, in the practice of Tax Consulting.
