Career

Mr. Szazi is a practicing lawyer in Brazil and senior partner at Szazi Bechara Storto Reicher e Figueiredo Lopes Advogados (SBSA Advogados), a law firm specialized in not-for-profit organizations and corporate social responsibility. He is currently serving as a Director of the Instituto dos Advogados do Paraná and as Vice-President of the International Law Commission of the Brazilian Bar Sectional Council of Parana (OAB/PR). He is also Legal Consultant of GIFE, the Brazilian grantmakers association, since 1997 and its only Emeritus Member since 2000.

Mr. Szazi is a noted lecturer and commentator on issues of NGO law, taxation, and corporate social responsibility issues, both in Brazil and abroad.

Since 1997 Mr. Szazi is engaged in law reform in Brazil and was a member of the small team convoked by the Brazilian Government to study and draft a new law on nonprofits which has enacted in 1999 and introduced the concept of Public Interest Civil Society Organization with distinguished rules on governance, accountability and transparence. Presently, he is engaged in some other law bills either in national, state, and local level and has testified before Congress in several hearings on NGO and civil society issues.

Mr. Szazi holds a PhD in International Law from Leiden University, the Netherlands (2012). He is a graduate from University of Sao Paulo Law School (1989).
