Career

Frederik advises and represents companies in all areas of intellectual property and unfair competition law. He specialises in trade mark law, with a particular focus on strategic advice and litigation.

His practice covers all other aspects of trademark and unfair competition law. This includes assisting companies with the launch of new brands, protecting these brands from third-party challenges, advising on portfolio management, negotiating agreements related to prior rights, delineation, and licensing, as well as representing clients in registration, opposition, and cancellation proceedings before both the German and European Trademark Offices and relevant courts, including the German Federal Supreme Court (BGH) and the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU).

In 2010, Frederik earned his PhD from Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich, where he was honoured with the Faculty Prize for his dissertation titled "Reliance upon Earlier Third-Party Trade marks."

He has served as a lecturer in Intellectual Property at the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg (TUHH) and has held lectures at numerous professional conferences.

Publications

Frederik is a co-author of "Ströbele/Hacker/Thiering," a prominent commentary on the German Trademark Act. He has contributed chapters addressing the limitations of trademark rights, the consequences of trademark infringement, and cancellation and infringement proceedings before ordinary courts and customs seizures. Additionally, he has published a number of articles in legal journals, focusing particularly on case law related to trademark law from the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) and the Federal Court of Justice (BGH).
