Practice Areas

Gilles Rancourt advises and represents public and private sector employers in a range of labour and employment law matters, including labour standards, human rights and freedoms, individual employment contracts and labour relations. Clients particularly prize his strategic human resource management advice. In unionized settings, Gilles assists with arbitration, certification and collective agreement decrees, and represents employers and government authorities in collective bargaining. He is widely recognized for his skill in negotiating highly complex or unusual collective agreements, and his pointed expertise in restrictive covenants relating to employment. He successfully argued a landmark case on the latter topic before the Supreme Court of Canada.

With his impressive track record, he frequently pleads before all levels of court, including administrative tribunals with jurisdiction in labour law matters and civil courts such as the Québec Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Gilles has written numerous articles and is a frequent guest speaker on a variety of issues pertaining to employment law and human resource management. He has been teaching collective bargaining at the Québec Bar School for several years now, and is a special contributor to the book Comment gérer un employé difficile (How to deal with a difficult employee), published by Les Éditions Transcontinental.
