Grant Hanessian is an independent arbitrator in New York.
Mr. Hanessian has acted as arbitrator or counsel in a wide range of international, investor-state, and complex commercial disputes arising under the laws of many countries and public international law, with particular experience in infrastructure and construction, energy, ,mining, pharma/life sciences, technology and intellectual property, financial services, post-M&A disputes and other contractual matters. He has served as arbitrator or counsel in more than 225 international arbitrations under the rules of most of the world's major arbitration institutions..
Career
Prior to June 2020, Mr. Hanessian was partner at Baker McKenzie in New York, where he practiced for 33 years, and served as global co-head of firm’s International Arbitration Practice, head of International Arbitration Practice in North America and head of New York office Litigation Department. Since 2018, Mr. Hanessian has served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Fordham Law School in New York, where he teaches the LL.M. International Arbitration Practicum and International Commercial Arbitration courses. He has also taught courses in International Investment Treaty Law and Practice and is a frequent speaker at arbitration conferences and law schools around the world. Professional Memberships
Mr. Hanessian was US member on the ICC's International Court of Arbitration in Paris from 2015 to 2021, chair of the Arbitration Committee of the US Council for International Business (U.S. national committee of the ICC) from 2015 to 2020, and Vice President of the LCIA’s North American Users Council from 2014 to 2022. He is a member of ICSID’s Panel of Arbitrators, the AAA-ICDR international advisory and publications committees, a fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a member of the International Arbitration Club of New York, CPR Arbitration Committee, NYC Bar Committee on International Commercial Disputes, Club Español del Arbitraje, and a founding board member of the New York International Arbitration Center. In 2023 Mr. Hanessian was named first president of the Arbitration Council of the Arbitration and Mediation Center of Armenia.
