Practice Areas

Hermès has extensive experience on complex cross-border matters having litigated or arbitrated international disputes in over sixty jurisdictions, including on NAFTA, GAFTA and ARIAS arbitrations.

He acts on global risk programmes involving the International Market and also as Counsel on third party liability accounts, where typically State interests are also involved. He leads teams handling major litigation and arbitration relating to financial institutions, liability, construction, engineering and energy.

Hermès is an acknowledged expert on issues of political violence, having been involved in the seminal cases on these issues including on Russia Ukraine and losses across Latin America and the interpretation of war, political violence, societal risks and terrorism exclusions.

He is fluent in several languages, including Spanish and Portuguese and has co-authored several textbooks, including “Getting the Deal Through: Insurance Litigation”, “Reinsurance Practice and the Law”, “Mass Torts – claims in Europe” and “War Risks and Terrorism”.
