Iain practices in commercial law, international arbitration and sport & media.

He has particular expertise in multi-party fraud, energy & natural resources, M&A and shareholder disputes, and banking & finance, including crypto and blockchain. Iain’s work includes some of the most significant cases in the English High Court and offshore in recent years, including acting as lead counsel in Krishna v Gowrie, a £150m fraud claim in the Chancery Division heard over 8 weeks in late 2022.

Iain is a go-to barrister in international arbitration. He is also regularly appointed as sole and co-arbitrator in LCIA, ICC and SCC disputes. Iain was appointed as the ICC UK Arbitration Consultant in 2016, the first barrister to hold that position, and is now Deputy Chair of the ICC UK Arbitration Committee and UK delegate to the ICC Global Arbitration Commission. He taught commercial and investor-state arbitration on the MA course at Kings College, London for eight years.

In the sports & media sector, Iain acts for a wide range of clients across music, television and sport, including the FA Premier League and the English Football League. His experience includes sports arbitration, Formula 1, horse racing and football. He has acted for the UK recording industry in multiple piracy cases, and for the exclusive owner of English football’s live match data in a seminal betting dispute.

Iain teaches advocacy at Lincoln’s Inn and, prior to taking silk, was on the UK Attorney General’s Panel of Counsel for 10 years.
