Ian Macara is a proven Court of Protection specialist. He previously held senior positions in a prominent West Sussex firm before joining JE Bennett Law as a Senior Partner. He now heads up the COP Public and Panel Deputies Division for the firm.

Ian’s clients have the benefit of the breadth of his significant legal experience and specialist knowledge. This has previously included obtaining the protection of injunctions within family law proceedings, establishing responsibility for accidents, and obtaining compensation for those with life altering injuries. However, most significantly during the past 19 years he has acted for those who find themselves in vulnerable circumstances but with legal, financial and care needs that deserve strategic and person-centred advice and assistance.

Ian is also regularly consulted by other professionals including many Local Authories, other solicitors, financial advisors and care consultants as well as being in demand to present to organisations on topics relating to the Court of Proteciton/Deputyship and also Powers of Attorney.

Ian is 1 of around 60 of the Office of the Public Guardian’s accredited Panel Deputies for the whole of England and Wales and a Recommended Lawyer in the 2025 Legal 500 Rankings.
