James I. Dougherty is a partner and co-founder of Dungey Dougherty PLLC with offices in Greenwich, Connecticut and New York City. He provides practical, thorough, and creative estate planning, probate, estate administration, and post-mortem estate planning solutions.

Prior to entering private practice, James clerked in the probate courts and his dedication to this area continues as he co-authored a book on the topic (LexisNexis Practice Guide: Connecticut Probate and Estate Administration) and serves on the Connecticut Probate Court Rules Advisory Committee. He assists fiduciaries and accountants with the estate tax reporting and handles audits with the federal, Connecticut, and New York taxing authorities.

As an estate planner, his practice is informed by his extensive experience with estate administration. James is known for his clear explanations of the various advantages, disadvantages, and administrative burdens of various structures so that the client may make informed decisions understanding the implications of various techniques.
