Career
Janet Walker, CM CD is an independent arbitrator at Toronto Arbitration Chambers and Sydney Arbitration Chambers and a door tenant at Atkin Chambers, London. She is also a distinguished research professor at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto. She has served as sole arbitrator, co-arbitrator and chair in ad hoc arbitrations and arbitrations administered by the ICC, ICDR, SIAC, LCIA, DIAC, HKIAC, KCAB and PCA.
Janet was the 2018 recipient of the CIArb Canada Award for Distinguished Service. In December 2021, Janet was appointed to the Order of Canada for her expert legal authority in commercial arbitration and conflict of laws, and for advancing legal procedural standards in Canada.
Professional Memberships
Janet is a board member of the International Construction Law Association and CIArb Canada and co-chair of CanArbWeek. She is also executive editor of the Canadian Journal of Commercial Arbitration.
Publications
Janet authors the main private international law text in Canada, which during her authorship has become the most cited private law work in Canadian courts, relied on in more than 400 decisions. In 2022, she co-authored Commercial Arbitration in Australia under the Model Law.
