With a focus on franchise litigation and related disputes, he has represented clients such as Acura, Aston Martin, Audi, Ferrari, Ford, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Kia, Land Rover, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Oshkosh, Pierce, Porsche, Toyota, Volvo, and Yamaha.

John has litigated a wide variety of manufacturer-dealer disputes, including: terminations, transfers, relocations, add points, failure to appoint, breach of contract and the obligation of good faith and fair dealing, price discrimination, disparate treatment, antitrust, unfair business practices, franchise modification, direct sales, facility obligations, advertising, incentive programs, performance standards, coercion, fraud, warranty reimbursement, unauthorized sales to brokers and exporters, constitutionality and retroactive application of statutes, and trademark violations. He has also authored amicus curiae briefs in cases of precedential importance for the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, a leading trade group. In addition to litigation, John advises clients on the motor vehicle franchise laws of all 50 states and Puerto Rico.
