Career
Mr. Escobar has 25 years of litigation experience. Bachelor of Legal and Social Sciences from Universidad de Valparaíso´s Law School (1995). Master in Public Law with a major in Constitutional Law from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where he was awarded the Prize Alejandro Silva Bascuñán to the best graduate.
In addition, he has a Degree on International Human Rights Law from Oxford University (2001), a Degree on Sanctioning Economic Law from Universidad de Los Andes (2017) and a Degree on Rights of Children and Adolescents Victims of Sexual Crimes and the Judicial System, from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2021). He also attended the Negotiation and Persuasion Course at Harvard University (2024).
He works as an attorney-at-law in the criminal, administrative and constitutional areas.
He started working at the Municipality of Lo Espejo (2001-2002), then on the Office of Human Rights of the Chancellery (2003-2004). Subsequently, he was a Public Prosecutor from the beginning of the Criminal Procedural Reform at the Office of Economic Crimes (2004-2008). He later became part of Harasic y López, where he became a partner in 2012.
In the educational area, he has an extensive background in the areas of International Human Rights Law and International Criminal Law, both at the School of Law of Universidad de Chile and at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He currently works as an Associated Teacher in the latter, lecturing International Criminal Law. In addition, at the same University, he works as a professor in the Litigation Course (Criminal Procedural Law). He has also lectured on the Judicial Academy, on the formation course.
He is a partner at the Asociación por las Libertades Públicas (Association for Public Liberties), where he was the Board of Directors’ Chairman for the term 2017-2019.
Apart from being a member at Colegio de Abogados de Chile A.G. (Chilean Bar Association A.G.), he is currently one of the judges of the Ethics Tribunal at said institution, in office from 2015-2028.
