Career
Joseph Saveri founded the Joseph Saveri Law Firm in 2012. Previously, he was a partner for 20 years at Lieff, Cabraser, Heimann & Bernstein, where he founded and built the firm’s Antitrust and Intellectual Property practice group and served as Managing Partner. Before then, he was an associate at McCutchen, Doyle, Brown & Enersen.
Mr. Saveri focuses on antitrust and other complex civil and class action litigation, including commercial litigation, intellectual property, generative artificial intelligence, and qui tam and whistleblower actions. His cases have involved a wide range of industries, including financial services, computers, consumer electronics, manufacturing, agricultural products, and pharmaceuticals.
With 30 years of civil litigation experience, Mr. Saveri is one of America’s top antitrust lawyers. He has prosecuted and successfully resolved numerous antitrust class actions and other complex cases in federal and state courts throughout the United States. He has served as lead or co-lead counsel in cases challenging global price-fixing cartels, “reverse payment” agreements between pharmaceutical companies, “no-poach” agreements, and various monopolistic practices. Many of these cases have resulted in record recoveries and have established groundbreaking precedent. Since inception, he and his firm’s attorneys have generated over $4.7 billion in settlements and successful resolutions for their clients.
Mr. Saveri is a frequent author of articles on antitrust and complex litigation issues, and a frequent lecturer on a variety of matters, including antitrust, complex litigation, class action practice, and discovery. He is a frequent speaker on antitrust issues as well as complex litigation topics, including ediscovery and generative artificial intelligence. He has recently chaired and participated in class action-related panel discussions held by International Comparative Legal Guides. In 2019, he was a featured speaker at the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division’s public roundtable to discuss the Antitrust Criminal Penalty Enhancement & Reform Act. He has participated in California Daily Journal/California Lawyer roundtables regarding class action and antitrust issues. He also serves as an author of California Antitrust and Unfair Competition Law, the legal treatise published by the State Bar of California’s Antitrust and Unfair Competition Section.
Mr. Saveri is on the Advisory Board of the American Antitrust Institute. Other memberships include the American Bar Association (Antitrust Section) and the Bar Association of San Francisco. Mr. Saveri has served as a Lawyer Representative for the United States District Court for the Northern District of California and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mr. Saveri served and serves on several court committees charged with developing rules and programs regarding complex litigation, ediscovery, and a variety of other matters. He was chosen to serve as a member of the Northern District’s Civil Rules Advisory Committee, the committee to establish rules and procedures for expedited trials (which the Court adopted as General Order No. 64, “Expedited Trial Procedures”), and the committee which crafted new ediscovery rules and procedures recently adopted by the Court.
