Mr. Peña is the head of Allende & Brea’s Antitrust/Competition, International Trade Law and Dumping department.
Career
Julián joined Allende & Brea in 2004 and has been the partner in charge of the firm’s antitrust department since 2007. Prior to joining Allende & Brea, Julián worked at the Ministry of Economy of Argentina advising different ministers and secretaries and working at the National Commission for the Defense of Competition.
His practice focuses on Antitrust and Competition law issues, including merger control proceedings, anticompetitive practices investigations and compliance work having been involved in many of the most relevant cases in Argentina. He has also been very active representing clients in antidumping and countervailing duties investigations both in Argentina and abroad.
Julian has been recognized as one of the leading Argentine antitrust lawyers by Global Competition Review, Chambers & Partners, Legal 500, Who’s Who of Competition Lawyers, Best Lawyers, Euromoney’s Expert Guides, Latin American Corporate Counsel Association (LACCA), Expert Guide’s Best of the Best in Latin America and Latin Lawyer 250, among other publications. Winner of the “Client Choice Awards 2018” in the Antitrust category (Argentina) and twice selected by Global Competition Review as one of the best 40 antitrust lawyers in the world under the age of 40.
Personal
He graduated from the Universidad Católica Argentina in 1995. He is currently a professor at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella’s Masters on Law and Economics and has been a visiting professor at the University of Florida and a professor at the Graduate Program of Universidad de Buenos Aires, among others. Julián has published three books and many articles and given numerous conferences around the world on competition law.
Julian is founder and moderator of ForoCompetencia (www.ForoCompetencia.com), an e-group focused on competition issues with more than 1,800 members from the public, private and academic sectors of 25 countries. He is also currently Senior Vice-Chair of the Antitrust Committee of the International Bar Association, Vice-Chair of the International Comments & Policy Committee of the Antitrust Law Section of the American Bar Association, and member of the Advisory Board of the Fordham Competition Law Institute and of the American Antitrust Institute.
