UK Bar
Practice Areas
Having specialised in costs litigation throughout his career, Latham quickly established himself as a heavyweight in all aspects of costs law, and continues to command a busy practice, regularly instructed by both paying and receiving parties in costs litigation across all fields of law. He boasts significant experience in matters of complex law and fact and the frequency of his instructions in the Court of Appeal is testament to his prominence as an expert in the field. His costs practice primarily focusses on clinical negligence and catastrophic personal injury claims, high value commercial litigation, group litigation and privacy/defamation claims. In addition to his broader legal practice, Lathamās experience in-house at a large international firm of Solicitors prior to joining the bar enables him to provide first class service in cases where an appreciation of the broader commercial picture is invaluable.
In 2021 Latham was appointed a Deputy Costs Judge of the Senior Courts Costs Office and he sits part-time in the Royal Courts of Justice alongside his busy practice at the bar.
As a qualified mediator, Lathamās practice is not limited to the courtroom and his clients regularly instruct him to either mediate or attend on their behalf at a mediation involving litigation costs.
In 2024 Latham joined the editorial team of Civil Court Practice (āThe Green Bookā), authoring the costs sections. From 2017 until its final publication in 2023 he co-authored the costs section of Civil Court Service (āThe Brown Bookā).
He is currently part of the Association of Costs Lawyersā Precedent G Working Party.
