Career

Dr. Malathi heads L&S’ Life Sciences patent practice group and she comes with more than 30 years’ experience in the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology, with expertise in plant genomics, DNA fingerprinting and genetic transformation. Before joining the patent field, she served as the Head, Centre for Bioresource & Biotechnology Division in the Energy and Resource Institute (TERI) for a period of 17 years. She specializes in drafting and prosecuting patents in the area of Organic chemistry, Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology. Has handled more than 1500 cases of patent prosecutions, overseen the drafting of more than 500 patent applications / specifications, attended more than 150 hearings before the Indian Patent Office and involved in more than 50 FTO / landscape projects

Also specializes in Plant Variety Protection and seeking regulatory approvals under ABS Regulations. Dr. Malathi received the National Science Talent Scholarship and the prestigious Fogarty Visiting Research Associateship from the US National Institute of Health.
