Dr Matthias Terlau specializes in payment law and FinTech, banking and banking supervisory law as well as capital markets law.
His clients include banks, FinTech companies, associations as well as national and international players in the financial services industry; also, he supports companies in other industries, e.g. the retail sector, with regards to financial products.
The focus of his services are complex outsourcing projects, development of new products in the banking and payment sector, licensing applications with the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority as well as other regulatory questions and legal advice in connection with corporate transactions.
Career
Dr Matthias Terlau is a partner at GÖRG Partnerschaft von Rechtsanwälten mbB. Before joining GÖRG in 2018, he worked as a lawyer and partner at a major international law firm.
After studying law at the Universities of Münster, Lausanne and Cologne, Matthias Terlau completed his legal clerkship in Cologne and Brussels. After his clerkship he worked for a law firm in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. He received his doctorate in law from the University of Cologne on the subject of "Private International Law of the Civil Law Partnership” (published by Duncker & Humblot in 1999).
He was admitted to the bar in 1997.
