Michael represents middle-market companies and advises official committees, prepetition and post-petition lenders, and acquirers of distressed assets.
He focuses on federal bankruptcy law, business reorganization and liquidation, and creditors’ rights in bankruptcy cases and in out-of-court restructurings ranging in size from a few million dollars to several billion dollars.
He often takes a leading role throughout all stages including case administration; litigation strategy; and the structure, formulation and confirmation of complex plans of reorganization.
In 2015, Michael was recognized for his work on a collaborative project that provides pro bono representation to Central American families seeking asylum while held in federal detention.
He is also the author of 26 original chapters on procedural rules governing bankruptcy litigation for the Bloomberg Law: Bankruptcy Treatise.
Michael spent four years as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy, where he served as a Naval Flight Officer with Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron Four (VQ-4).
