Michael represents energy companies and commodity trading companies in a wide variety of commercial, regulatory, compliance and enforcement matters in connection with the trading, ownership, transportation, and transmission of commodities. In addition to representing clients in investigations and regulatory matters involving the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), the National Futures Association (NFA), the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), and designated contract markets, Michael is a thought leader in the development of effective compliance programs. He also advises clients regarding compliance with the US Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) petroleum market manipulation regulations and federal and state laws related to carbon emissions, renewable energy, and green energy claims.
Combining his extensive regulatory experience with his deep understanding of trading, Michael collaborates with commercial teams to structure commodity transactions and asset management arrangements to ensure compliance while achieving clients’ commercial objectives.
