Michiel Gorsira is an experienced of counsel and he continues to lead our growing insolvency practice.

In 2023 Michiel (1) continued his role as bankruptcy trustee of the Curacao-based offshore bank Banco del Orinoco N.V., in which bankruptcy he is entrusted with the creditors’ claims totaling USD 1.1 billion, (2) He was and still is involved in legal proceedings in Curacao and before the Supreme Court in The Hague, the Netherlands representing a local bank against country Curacao regarding the unlawful and tortuous termination of long lease rights by country Curacao and subsequent infringement of the bank’s mortgage rights on the long leased property. Michiel (3) was and still is representing the Curacao Association for Protestant-Christian Education in civil and administrative proceedings against the country Curacao and the Curacao Secretary of Education on adequate and equal funding of special education versus public education. (4) In addition, he also assisted international reinsurers in Aruba in procedures against local insurers and is continuously involved in general corporate and commercial litigation.
