Mohamed Gabr of EFG Hermes Investment Banking
High-profile corporate lawyer Mohamed Gabr joined EFG Hermes as group general counsel in 2020 from Nour & Partners in Association with Al-Tamimi & Company, where he was the head of the firm’s corporate and commercial team. Described as a “tough negotiator” and a “brilliant mind” who is “fair in transactions,” Gabr’s varied and accomplished career is widely celebrated by the market.
Prior to moving in-house Gabr was the driving force behind some of the most noted transactions in Egypt. In 2019 alone he advised on more than 25 M&A and capital markets deals, including the EGP1.7 billion initial public offering of shares of Tenth of Ramadan for Pharmaceutical Industries and Diagnostic Reagents (Rameda) on the Egyptian Stock Exchange. He also advised Masria Digital Payments on the sale of a minority stake in its business to AfricInvest, marking the first successful deal for AfricInvest in Egypt.
Gabr was also previously a partner at both Matouk Bassiouny and Zaki Hashem & Partners, where he began his career as a paralegal. He was named legal head of EFG Hermes last August and is expected to bring his wide transactional experience to bear as the company continues to solidify its reputation as a leading name outside of the MENA region. Widely recognised for its accomplishments in emerging markets, the firm was recently named Best Investment Bank in Frontier Markets by Global Finance Magazine.
