Practice covers the full spectrum of public international law. Substantial experience representing states, international organizations and multinationals. Also covers conflict of laws (in group litigation cases) and international arbitration. Sits as arbitrator (Sat as Chair in an €1.2b+ investment arbitration with a seat in The Hague). Guest lecturer at the Course on Investment Law & Arbitration, Cambridge University.
Instructed in complex and high-profile cases, counsel in English &international courts, and arbitral tribunals under a variety of rules and applicable laws: ICJ, PCA, ITLOS, OECD, UN, regional bodies, ICSID, SCC, SIAC tribunals; ICC.
Expert in the substance and procedure of diplomatic & state immunity; consular law. (represented a Sovereign (state immunity) in the employment tribunal; advised in the US$1bn gold dispute re the Central Bank of Venezuela). Works in English, Spanish, French.
Career
Substantive experience working for international courts i.e the ICJ (advising in the seminal case on Genocide (Bosnia v Ex-Yugoslavia)), and the ICTY (Chamber Trial I); Legal adviser to a State Delegation (Diplomatic Conference, Rome Statute); Assistant Legal Adviser to the FCO; Shortlisted ‘Barrister of the Year’ Lawyer Awards;The Lawyer Hot 100 2020; Visiting Fellow (Jesus College).
