Monica’s practice covers the full spectrum of public international law acting for States, and private parties. Expert in conflict of laws (group litigation) and international arbitration (incl. in immunities and enforcement of awards). Accepts appointments as arbitrator. Recently sat (Chair) in a €1.2 billion+ investment case with a seat in The Hague and has been lecturer at the LCIL Executive Course on Investment Law & Arbitration, Cambridge University.
Regularly instructed in complex and high-profile cases, she acts as counsel in English and international courts, and arbitral tribunals under a variety of rules and applicable laws: Court of Appeal, the High Court, the ICJ, PCA, ITLOS, OECD, UN, regional bodies, ICSID, SCC and SIAC tribunals. Admitted to the ICC.
Expert in the substance and procedure (service of process) of diplomatic immunity & state immunity. Expert in the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.Recent work: acting for a Sovereign in an employment claim raising immunity issues (s.5 SIA) and in the US$1bn gold dispute relating to the Central Bank of Venezuela. Languages: English, Spanish, French.

Substantive experience working for international courts. Currently acting in the Advisory Opinion before the International Court of Justice on Climate Change; Legal adviser to a State Delegation (Diplomatic Conference, Rome Statute); Assistant Legal Adviser to the FCO; Shortlisted ‘Barrister of the Year’ Lawyer Awards;The Lawyer Hot 100 2020; Visiting Fellow (Jesus College).
