Career

Myron Marlin is a Senior Managing Director in the Strategic Communications segment, where he heads the Americas Crisis & Litigation Communications practice. Based in Washington, D.C., Mr. Marlin is a former practicing attorney who served as Chief Spokesman and Director of Public Affairs at the U.S. Department of Justice (“DOJ”), and Communications Director at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”).

Mr. Marlin has more than 25 years of communications experience handling major crises, high-stakes litigation, financial transactions, cyber incidents and government investigations. His private sector clients have included Merck, J&J, Pfizer, Nike, Wal Mart, Cigna, Equifax, Mars, Shell, Bosch, Ford, the Writer’s Guild, the National Collegiate Athletics Association (“NCAA”), U.S. Foodservice, AstraZeneca and Novartis, among many others.

Prior to FTI Consulting, Mr. Marlin served for nearly five years at the SEC under Chairs Mary Jo White and Mary L. Schapiro. While there, he coordinated communications strategy on a range of significant issues, including the agency’s landmark policy of seeking admissions in certain enforcement cases, and major rulemaking stemming from the Dodd-Frank Act and the JOBS Act. He also served as a communications advisor to the SEC chair, and counseled senior officials through congressional testimony. Previously, Mr. Marlin was a senior vice president at a public affairs agency, handling crisis and litigation communications across a host of industries, including energy, transportation, pharmaceutical, retail, auto, chemical and entertainment.

Before that, Mr. Marlin led the media operations at the DOJ, and oversaw the communications efforts of the various law enforcement components — including the Drug Enforcement Administration, FBI and United States Immigration and Naturalization Service. During his tenure, Mr. Marlin provided communications counsel to the U.S. attorney general on such matters as the Elian Gonzalez case, the lawsuit against the tobacco industry, the Microsoft litigation, the appointment of Independent Counsels and the U.S. Navy’s reacquisition of Vieques, Puerto Rico. Upon his departure, Attorney General Janet Reno awarded him the prestigious Edmond J. Randolph Award for Outstanding Service. Prior to his career in Washington, D.C., Mr. Marlin was an associate at the New York law firm, Tenzer Greenblatt Fallon & Kaplan, focusing on bankruptcy and financial litigation.

Mr. Marlin is a graduate of the University of Michigan and served on the Dean's Advisory Council at his law school alma mater. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Parkinson Foundation of the National Capital Area and was a graduate-level adjunct professor of crisis communications at Johns Hopkins University.
