Leading Silk in costs litigation and funding work. For nearly 30 years he has been recognised as one of the best-known leading barristers in his specialised field of costs related and funding litigation. He is regularly instructed in high profile, high value cases which in the past year has included the Diesel Emissions claims and the Grenfell Tower litigation, and some key funding cases in the Competition Appeal Tribunal including Gutmann v. Apple Inc. He is often instructed by insurers and funders to draft and advise on complex funding structures for use in multi-party litigation and in claims of substantial value, including in excess of £1 billion. A well respected and commanding leader in this market with a hugely impressive bank of leading cases to his name in all divisions of the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.

He has been a contributing editor to the section on Costs in Halsbury's Laws of England, the 'Green Book' - the Civil Court Practice, Butterworths' Costs Service and the Civil Court Precedents and was the co-author of The Bar Handbook. Currently member of the Civil Justice Counsel working group on litigation funding and the Civil Justice Council working group on guideline hourly rates and costs budgeting.

Nicholas' outdoor passion is yachting. He is married with two children.
