Penny Madden is Co-Chair of the International Arbitration Practice Group and has a wide range of experience in all key aspects of arbitration, with expertise in shareholder, telecommunications, energy, international trade, mining and insurance disputes. She represents clients across the globe in a wide variety of arbitrations, including in LCIA, ICC, UNCITRAL, ICSID, PCA, SIAC, HKIAC, LMAA, and ad hoc proceedings, and also regularly sits as an arbitrator.

Her recent cases include representing Yukos Capital in its US$5 billion UNCITRAL arbitration win against the Russian Federation; representing oil and gas majors in defeating a multi-billion LCIA arbitration claim brought by a joint venture shareholder, representing an oil and gas corporate in securing a US$2.5 billion monetary award in arbitration proceedings against a state-owned oil company; representing a major US corporate in parallel LCIA and ICC arbitration proceedings in a US$1 billion plus dispute.

She is a member of the LCIA, CIArb, the Financial Sector Arbitration Group and the editorial board of Commercial Dispute Resolution. She writes and lectures on a wide variety of arbitration issues and is the international arbitration specialist for the Diplomatic Book and Website for foreign Embassies and High Commissions.
