Career
Roger Dobson leads Jones Day’s Restructuring and Insolvency Practice in Australia. He has extensive experience working on large, complex restructuring and insolvency matters across a range of industries, including energy, mining, construction, engineering, media and communications, investment banking and financial services, retail, and manufacturing.
Over the past decade, Roger has represented main banking syndicates, offshore funds holding a substantial debt position, companies experiencing financial distress, liquidators, administrators, and receivers. Recently, Roger represented the first lien lenders in the restructure of Camp Australia, and acted for Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation in connection with what is alleged to be the largest financial fraud ever in Australia associated with the collapse of the Forum group of companies. Other recent engagements have related to the administrations of TopShop, Paladin Energy, and Payless Group, the restructure of Virgin Australia and of US Sasser Group’s Australian rail infrastructure business, and the Bell Resources Group liquidation, which is the most complex liquidation in Australia. Roger has also represented senior lender groups in many complex restructurings and insolvencies, including Babcock & Brown group (AUD 66bn external debt), ABC Learning and Allco.
Roger is a member of the Australian Restructuring Insolvency & Turnaround Association (ARITA) and INSOL International.
