Roland Estevez is a Partner in the New York office of Milbank LLP and a member of the firm’s Global Project, Energy and Infrastructure Finance Group.

Mr. Estevez’s practice is primarily focused on the representation of financial institutions, multi-nationals and developers across a broad spectrum of sectors, including power (focusing on renewable energy and energy transition), infrastructure (digital, transportation and social) and oil and gas throughout the Americas.

Mr. Estevez speaks Spanish natively. He received a business degree in Economics from the University of South Florida and a law degree from the Hofstra University School of Law where he was a member of the Hofstra Law Review.

He is listed as a leading project finance lawyer in Chambers Latin America (Projects), Chambers USA (Expert in Projects) and the Legal 500.

Experience

His recent representations include:

• Representation in connection with Actis’ acquisition of (a) Enel Generacion Perú (renewables portfolio in Peru), (b) the Mitsui Falcon portfolio as well as EVM I and EVM II of co-generation power plants in Mexico and related 144A and working capital facility financing (now Valia), and (c) Intergen’s Mexican 1,000+ MW portfolio (now Saavi).

• Representation of the lenders in connection with the $2.5 billion financing of Engie’s Mexican natural gas pipeline expansion project consisting of an approximately 700km natural gas pipeline in the Yucatán Peninsula (Mayakan/Cuxtal II).

• Representation in connection with the acquisition of 11 LNG infrastructure vessels owned by New Fortress Energy Inc. (“NFE”) by a newly formed joint venture between funds managed by Apollo Global Management (“Apollo”) and NFE (Brazil);

• Representation in connection with Brookfield’s acquisition from BlackRock of interests in the Los Ramones Norte and the Sur Pipelines in Mexico;

• Representation in connection with Macquarie Asset Management’s joint venture with Hydro Rein to develop Feijão a 586 MW combined solar and wind power project (Brazil);

• Representation in connection with Patria’s development and financing of the construction of a 1000 l/s desalinization plan and aqueduct project (AguasPacifico), including maritime works.

• Representation in the Chilean financings of (a) Sonnedix’s Arcadia renewables portfolio and PMGD portfolio financing, (b) La Cruz’s solar project financing (owned by Brookfield), (c) Mainstream’s financing of over a 1000MW portfolio of solar and wind projects, (d) TotalEnergies Santa Isabel solar project, (e) OPDEnergy’s La Estrella & Sol de los Andes, (f) Aela Energia’s Sarco, Aurora and Cuel projects, (f) (g) Ibereólica’s and EDF Energies Nouvelle’s Cabo Leones project (h) EDF Energies Nouvelle’s and AME’s Santiago Solar project and (i) financing of Hidroeléctrica La Higuera, a 161 MW run-of-river hydropower plant.

• Representation in the financings of (a) Jinko Solar’s portfolio of the Viborillas and San Ignacio PV projects (now Riverstone), (b) Canadian Solar’s Aguascalientes, Horus, Tastiota and El Mayo PV project portfolio and (c) OPDEnergy’s Andalucía II and Aguascalientes Sur I PV projects, all in Mexico.

• Macquarie Capital in the acquisition, development and financing for the 907MW Norte III Power Plant in Mexico;

• Representation of financial institutions (including export credit agencies) in connection with major drillship, semi-submersible and FPSO transactions in Brazil and Mexico;

• Representing project sponsors and lenders in connection with major infrastructure projects throughout the Americas (including PR-22 among others).
