Career
Satcha Kissoon is the Managing Partner of Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean and also serves as the Regional Head of Litigation and Dispute Resolution in Dentons' Caribbean practice.
He holds a Bachelors of Science Degree with Double Major and a Bachelors in Law, both from the University of the West Indies. He obtained his Legal Education Certificate at the Hugh Wooding Law School where he obtained awards for Advocacy. Satcha was also a student member of the Inner Temple, London where both his parents and several family members were admitted as Barristers.
Satcha first joined a regional firm based in Barbados as an associate in the litigation department with primary focus on commercial litigation. He subsequently formed the firm of Weekes & Kissoon in 2005, a boutique litigation firm, where he was the joint managing partner. This firm was concerned with commercial litigation and acted as counsel to private clients and to firms locally and regionally in complex litigation matters.
Satcha has successfully argued before all levels of Court in the Caribbean. He has regularly appeared before the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), which replaced the Privy Council for Barbados. Notably, he argued the first Employment Law matter to the Caribbean Court of Justice from the Court of Appeal of Barbados where he successfully urged the CCJ to reverse the decision of the Court of Appeal of Barbados on behalf of Sandy Lane Hotel. He also appeared as lead counsel in the historic CCJ case of Clarence Sealy v R in 2016 where the CCJ endorsed and laid down principles on which a trial judge is required to direct a jury. He again successfully urged the Caribbean Court of Justice to set aside the Barbados Court of Appeal in 2018 in a landmark decision, and again for Sandy Lane Hotel, which decision has changed the procedure of appeals to the Court of Appeal.
Satcha argues frequently before all levels of Courts in Barbados in all areas of the law with a primary focus on Commercial Litigation, Administrative law, Admiralty, Employment and Labour and Construction disputes.
Satcha sat as a member of the Disciplinary Committee of the Barbados Bar Association for 6 years. He also tutored at the Faculty of Law at the University of the West Indies.
