Scott is an experienced intellectual property lawyer.

Prior to establishing MoranLaw in 2024, Scott was a Partner for over 20 years at New Zealand national law firm Duncan Cotterill where he also led the opening and establishment of Duncan Cotterill’s Wellington Office and the establishment of the firm’s award winning intellectual property practice.

Scott's focus in intellectual property is in assisting global brands to protect their trade marks in New Zealand and Australia. He also helps Australian brand owners protect their brands locally and internationally.

Scott is well-known for his team's prompt and proactive service, transparent and no surprise pricing and depth of knowledge and experience.

Career

Scott started his career in Queenstown New Zealand and subsequently moved to Duncan Cotterill's Christchurch Offce. In 2000 he was tasked with opening Duncan Cotterill's Wellington Office and was made a partner in the firm in 2001. He established the intellectuial property team in the firm and took it to a top 5 trade mark filing practice in New Zealand. The team also won New Zealand Law Awards intellectual property law awards. In April 2024, with a number of his core team, he established MoranLaw.
