Career
Stephanie Andersen is a shareholder at Forsberg & Umlauf specializing in insurance coverage litigation and extracontractual counseling and litigation. She is a current contributing writer at the King County Bar Bulletin, a past contributing writer for the WDTL Defense News, and a board member and contributing editor for the Insurance Litigation Reporter.
Stephanie attended undergraduate and law school at the University of Florida and has practiced law for 35 years, first in Atlanta then, for the past 32 years, in Seattle. In Atlanta, her biggest client was MARTA, the city’s train and bus system. Since moving to Seattle in 1992, she has worked exclusively as a coverage and bad faith lawyer, in particular IFCA, CPA and common law bad faith.
Stephanie has been named a Washington Super Lawyer from 2012 – 2024, and a Top 50 Women Super Lawyer in 2022 and 2023.
She is past president of the Northwest Insurance Coverage Association and a frequent speaker on insurance coverage and bad faith matters. Most recently she spoke on additional insured issues.
From 2016 – 2018 Stephanie was a member of the Washington State Bar Association Diversity Committee. For the past five years she has been the firm’s liaison for LEAD-WA, a program run jointly by Washington’s three law schools for diverse 1Ls to apply for summer internships.
For several years Stephanie was a board member of the Friends of the Seattle Public Library. She likes to write and in the past two years has contributed the humorous short stories “Swamped” and “Knowing Everything” to the King County Bar Bulletin, and “The Cut Off, A Short Story” to the WDTL Defense News. She is also the author of “Beasley v. Geico: After This, Is Anything Left for Insurers Under IFCA?” for the WDTL Defense News.
This year Stephanie is a University of Washington School of Law 1L mentor. She is cognizant of and excited for the opportunity to help the next generation of lawyers make their mark.
