Practice Areas
Stephen is an experienced criminal junior practising predominantly in the field of financial crime and fraud, including fraud committed against both private individuals and public bodies. He has acted as leading junior and led junior in major prosecutions brought by CPS specialist units arising from investigations by the Police, HMRC, the MHRA, the NCA, the Home Office and the NHS.
Many of his cases feature complex evidence of a technical or scientific nature. Recent CPS instructions have included acting as leading junior in cases involving organised alcohol smuggling, the deliberate falsification of scientific data used in a medicines licence application and a fraud against the Grenfell Tower immigration amnesty.
As junior alone he prosecuted the first case relating to the production of a fake remedy for Covid 19.
He is currently instructed by the Financial Conduct Authority to prosecute a fraud which exploits “churning” in the contracts for difference market.
He is also a Grade 4 general crime prosecutor and frequently instructed in cases of serious organised crime and serious violent crime.
Recent instructions in this area have included responding to a historic murder appeal; as well as cases of attempted murder, conspiracy to supply Class A drugs and kidnap.
