Stuart combines deep expertise as a finance and projects lawyer to a range of participants in the maritime, offshore and energy sectors with broad international experience having spent significant periods of his career in Asia, continental Europe and London.

Stuart began his career as a maritime lawyer in London in 1988, moving to Singapore in December 1988. He spent more than eight years in Singapore, followed by seven in Paris. Stuart’s headline matters include a number of high profile LNG shipping projects over the course of the last 25 years, acting mainly for shipowners and charterers. He has advised on projects in Algeria, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, the US and Norway. He counselled a number of joint venture owners providing tonnage to the Yamal LNG project advising on a total of 13 of the ships serving the project. He recently advised on the high profile FSO ‘Safer’ matter which involved the safe transhipment of over 1,000,000 barrels of oil and the removal of FSO ‘Safer’ from Yemeni waters where it might have caused a significant environmental disaster. Stuart is a member of BIMCO’s Documentary Drafting Sub-Committee.
