Firm Overview:

Alexander Dubose & Jefferson (ADJ) offers clients a 21st-century approach to litigation in which appellate counsel, trial lawyers, and the client work together collaboratively and efficiently to assess risk, explore creative solutions and develop strategies to maximize the odds of a favorable outcome. With 11 board-certified appellate lawyers, ADJ has the deepest collection of elite-level talent of any Texas appellate group. ADJ’s offices in Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio provide a springboard to courts nationwide. The firm’s lawyers have appeared in the U.S. Supreme Court and appear regularly in the Texas Supreme Court, in addition to state and federal intermediate appellate courts. ADJ lawyers also team with litigators in state and federal trial courts, assisting at trial as well as during the pretrial and post-verdict phases. Through active participation and leadership roles in respected organizations such as the American Law Institute, the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, the ABA Council of Appellate Lawyers, the ABA Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section, and the State Bar of Texas, ADJ remains at the forefront of developing legal issues.

As importantly, ADJ continues its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion at the firm, in its profession, and in its communities. The diversity in the firm’s ownership, attorneys, and staff reflects ADJ’s culture, in which different people, backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs are valued, supported, and engaged. ADJ’s differences give the firm a broad perspective and enhance its ability to handle challenges. These strengths energize ADJ to tackle the toughest cases, take action to improve DE&I in the legal profession, and work in its communities for positive change.

These efforts intersect seamlessly with ADJ’s commitment to access to justice, exemplified by ADJ’s lawyers’ pro bono work. In recent years, this work has included representing a death-row inmate in his claim of actual innocence and obtaining compensation for a former death-row inmate erroneously convicted, representing immigrant women and children challenging the length and conditions of their confinement while awaiting a determination of their asylum claims, and opposing attempts to block county officials from allowing voters with concerns about polling-place COVID conditions to cast mail-in ballots. These are just a few examples of the work that has led organizations to recognize our lawyers as outstanding contributors to access to justice for all.

ADJ’s well-rounded approach reflects our commitment to excellence in all that we do. Clients have come to know ADJ as the go-to firm when the stakes are highest. ADJ is dedicated to preserving the win and reversing the loss. ADJ lawyers love their work and consider it a privilege to show clients and trial lawyers how that work can help them.
