Guang Yu & Co. was established in Guangzhou on June 19, 2009. The founders of Guang Yu & Co. include lawyers Xu Guangyu, Zhou Chongyu, Li Zhenhai, and Long Yulan.

Its practice areas encompass maritime and admiralty law, international trade, construction engineering, criminal defence, corporate law, bankruptcy liquidation, distressed assets, labour and personnel security, as well as corporate legal consulting and other specialized fields.

Our clients include maritime bureaus and oceanic authorities across various provinces and cities, the government of Guangzhou Municipality, large and medium-sized state-owned enterprises, private enterprises, as well as corporations and shipowners' mutual insurance associations from Hong Kong JuYe Far East Company, Taiwan Evergreen Group, Japan, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, among others.

Guang Yu & Co. has handled thousands of litigation and non-litigation legal matters, as well as domestic and international arbitration cases. Notable cases include the significant pollution damage and salvage case of the "TANJA JACOB", the nationwide collision and oil pollution case involving "HYUNDAI ADVANCE" and "MSC ILONA", the oil pollution case of the "TASMAN SEA", the ship reconstruction contract dispute case of the "AEGIALI", and the collision case involving the Jiu Jiang Bridge, among others.

Cases represented by Guang Yu & Co., such as the judicial online auction case of the "VARADA BLESSING" and the case of the "Huhai Gong 0278", were selected as part of the "Top Ten" cases of the Guangdong Provincial Courts in 2016. The "TRANS SUMMER" case was selected as one of the top ten environmental protection typical cases in the province in 2017. The "Gui Bei Yu" fishing boat collision and sinking case was selected as one of the top ten cases by the Supreme People's Court. The "CMA CGM Florida" and "Chou Shan" were listed as typical cases by the Supreme People's Court. The "Haojun" vessel oil pollution case and the "M/V Maersk Honam" vessel maritime property damage liability dispute case were selected as part of the top ten typical cases of the Guangzhou Maritime Court in 2022.

Lawyers at Guang Yu & Co. have contributed to the drafting of training materials for administrative law enforcement personnel by the Ministry of Transport, as well as special training materials for international sailors. They have also participated in the drafting, discussion, and revision of more than 30 maritime laws, regulations, and judicial interpretations by the Legislative Affairs Commission of the National People's Congress, the Legal Affairs Office of the State Council, the Ministry of Transport, Guangdong Province, Guangzhou and the Supreme People's Court.

At the request of the Ministry of Transport Maritime Safety Administration and the Supreme People's Court, Guang Yu & Co., conducted research and drafted the "Navigation Mark Protection Measures" and provided legal opinions on several issues related to maritime pollution compensation.

In May 2020, upon request by the Ministry of Justice, opinions were provided on the draft revision of the "Maritime Law of the People's Republic of China," receiving wide recognition.
