Recent Representation:

  • Advised Showa Sangyo on its acquisition of its competitor San-ei Sucrochemical in the highly concentrated glucose market.M&P represented Showa Sangyo during antitrust law proceedings and achieved quick unconditional approval in the Phase I review.The case is published by the JFTC as one of the major merger control cases of last year.
  • Advised Benefit One Inc. on its acquisition of its competitor JTB Benefit in a highly concentrated market.Even though the matter involves a difficult issue regarding a two-sided market, the firm successfully persuaded the JFTC to clear the transaction unconditionally in the Phase I review.

  • Defended a major Japanese company in a number of high-profile lawsuits in Japan regarding an extremely large-scale round-tripping fraud case
  • Represented a leading Japanese manufacturing company in an HKIAC arbitration regarding a 40-million-dollar dispute over a JV business in Hong Kong
