Profile
Based in São Paulo/SP, Peck Advogados was founded nearly 20 years ago, when partner Patricia Peck Pinheiro anticipated, in one of the first books about digital law in Brazil, that a new area of legal practice was emerging, driven by technology. If society was changing, law would also follow this transformation.
It was not a separate discipline, but an interdisciplinary area, which would involve all areas of law and permeate all of our clients' business fronts. Peck Advogados was founded on this premise. Since then, the firm has become a pioneer and leader in the practice of digital law and innovation in Brazil, consolidating its position not only in the private and public sectors, but also in Brazil's academic and research environment.
Peck Advogados team is highly qualified to deal with the most varied demands from clients of all sizes and from all sectors of the economy. Our professionals combine a solid academic background with extensive experience in the business sector, including working in both renowned law firms and multinationals. In addition to several of our professionals holding master's and doctoral degrees from renowned Brazilian and international universities, 70% of our lawyers - including all partners and senior lawyers - hold the most up-to-date certifications issued by renowned institutions linked to data protection, technology and artificial intelligence.
Peck Advogados also offers legal analysis of strategies in projects with Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications; study of risks and legal feasibility for implementing AI projects (regulatory, privacy, security and ethics); protection of AI intellectual property; auditing of algorithms and chatbots; and analysis of algorithmic bias.
In nearly 20 years of history, among dozens of innovative projects we have developed, we highlight:
•The first privacy policy on a virtual store website and the first employee code of conduct for social media posture (Orkut) in retail (2004/2005);
•The first opinion for digital signature and digitization of engineering documents (2007);
•The first opinion with analysis of clauses for contracting cloud services (2008);
•The first opinion on mobile banking (2010/2011);
•The first opinion on enabling biometric authentication at ATMs and the first opinion on promotion via WhatsApp and Instagram (both 2014/2016);
•The first opinion on adapting to the use of drones in agribusiness (2017);
•The first opinion on the use of facial recognition (2018);
•The first opinion on the viability of telemedicine platforms, which started Open Health (2019).
Peck Advogados is Brazil's representative in the prestigious International Network of Privacy Law Professionals (INPLP), an international institution that brings together the main debates on data protection in the world and has only one other Brazilian law firm as a participant.
