What Diversity, Equity and Inclusion means at Chambers

As one of our core values, championing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is very important to Chambers and Partners, both internally in our business but also across the whole of the global legal market.   

Our dedicated Chambers DEI programme works both internally at Chambers and externally in the wider legal market to further diversity within the legal profession, through research & insights, awards & events, and our internal DEI work. Our dedicated team work across all Chambers departments to implement our diversity, equity and inclusion strategy, as well as working with law firms and clients to highlight positive action and share best practice. 

Our strategy comprises of three areas:

Advisory

The Advisory function works with the business to ensure considerations of diversity, equity and inclusion are at the heart of Chambers’ business practices and procedures, as well as our products and services. This includes internal training, bespoke initiatives to support the Chambers workforce, ongoing collaborations with our Research and People functions and acting as advisors on ESG matters.

External

We play an instrumental role in helping law firms, in-house legal teams and barristers chambers in furthering the advancement of diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal profession by shining a light on best practice and trailblazers in the field. This work developed from our programme’s original incarnation as the Women in Law Awards in 2012. Over a decade on, we now run DEI Awards in the USA, Latin America, Brazil, Europe, Asia Pacific and the Greater China Region and at the UK Bar, with categories focussing on DEI work, Pro Bono and Sustainability.

INSPIRE

Last, Chambers brings together an internal DEI and Responsible Business committee of employees from across the business, which we call INSPIRE. The committee educates and empowers colleagues with information about DEI, acts as a focus group for DEI-related policies or procedures and works with other stakeholders to build an inclusive culture where every employee belongs.
