Career
Ben Knowles is the Chair of Clyde & Co’s Global Arbitration Group and Chair of the Dispute Resolution Practice Group. He operates across multiple sectors and has particular experience in the areas of energy, oil & gas, aviation, trade & commodities and telecommunication. Ben also spearheads the firm's disputes funding initiative, and is vital to the firms strong relationships with a number of funders.
Ben has substantial experience in disputes and international arbitration including at the ICC, ICSID, PCA, UNCITRAL, LMAA, LME and LCIA. His work comprises of many commercial arbitration matters as well as investor state cases, such as acting for a private global company on its significant portfolio of customer claims spanning every continent, and successfully defending a state in relation to telecoms licensing, in, what was at the time, one of the highest value ICC arbitrations.
In addition, Ben has successfully represented multiple Yemeni interests for close to two-decades, instrumental to Clyde & Co being the only international firm currently recognised by Chambers in Yemen.
In addition, Ben co-founded the Virtual Arbitration website, bringing together knowledge and information from a number of firms, institutions and technological providers on how to approach virtual arbitrations. All while sitting on the editorial board of the Global Arbitration Review and on the ICC UK Committee.
