Career
A partner at our Birmingham office, Julian Smart specialises in professional indemnity, commercial fraud and recovering misappropriated funds on behalf of clients.
Julian previously worked in our London office before making the move to Birmingham to establish our recovery and professional indemnity team. He has particular expertise in freezing and tracing assets.
As part of his work, Julian is instructed by professional indemnity insurers to defend negligence claims against professionals. These include surveyors, accountants, architects and engineers.
Julian is also a member of our fraud special interest group and is recognised in the Chambers legal directory as a leader in the field of professional indemnity in the regions. He has also been recognised as a “Leading Individual” by Legal 500 for 2022.
Among Julian’s other accomplishments are the successful representation of appellants in the Court of Appeal (CA) cases: Asif v City Europe Limited & Others and Liverpool Freeport (Electronics) Ltd v Habib Bank Limited.
