Bruce Hoffman’s practice focuses on antitrust enforcement, including merger clearance, conduct investigations, and antitrust and related litigation. In his government positions and private practice Bruce has played a leading role in developing antitrust analysis in digital and high technology industries, and antitrust and sustainability. He also advises on FTC investigations on consumer protection issues, such as advertising and marketing practices.

Career

Bruce joined Cleary Gottlieb as a partner after serving as Director of the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Competition from August 2017 until late December of 2019. As Director, he was the head of the FTC’s antitrust enforcement and was responsible for developing Bureau policy, supervising all of the Bureau’s investigations and litigation, and conducting high-level relations with other leading antitrust enforcers, as well as communications with Congress. Bruce also served as Deputy and Associate Director of the Bureau of Competition from 2001-2004, and has held leading positions in the antitrust practice of other global law firms in his 30-year career.
