Chris heads up the firm's construction and engineering team, specialising in both non-contentious and contentious construction law and acting for employers, contractors, sub-contractors and professional consultants. Non-contentious work includes advising on procurement methods, drafting, vetting and negotiating building and engineering contracts (whether standard form, standard form with amendments or bespoke) and associated documents (bonds, warranties, guarantees etc.), and professional appointments. Contentious work includes disputes through litigation (TCC), arbitration and adjudication on issues such as contract interpretation, payment, defects, determination, loss and expense, delay and quantum meruit. Reported cases include Serck Controls Ltd v Drake & Scull Engineering Ltd 1998 All ER and Privy Council case The National Housing Trust -v- YP Seaton & Associates Company Ltd (Jamaica).
Career
Qualified in 1982, Chris trained and practised in the City before joining Shoosmiths in 1990; 2001 to 2003 at construction specialist Fenwick Elliott; 2003 to 2012 partner and 2012 to date consultant at Thomson Snell & Passmore LLP.
