Practice Areas
David has developed a successful practice across all areas of intellectual property law since being called to the bar in 2014. David’s recent work has concerned technical and (F)RAND licensing issues relating to standards-essential telecoms patents, entitlement to patents relating to subterranean exploration, trade mark issues arising from the parallel importation of medical devices, claims relating to infringement of copyright in sound recordings, infringement of unregistered design right, and jurisdictional disputes.
David appears regularly before the High Court, Intellectual Property Enterprise Court, and the UKIPO, and has appeared in the Court of Appeal as junior counsel in a significant recent appeal relating to (F)RAND licensing and as sole counsel in an appeal from a decision of the High Court in a jurisdictional challenge.
David’s academic background is in Chemistry. He completed his undergraduate degree at Oxford and then completed a PhD at Bristol, which involved the use of analytical chemistry and molecular biology techniques to investigate biosynthetic enzymes.
