Career
David is a specialist property practitioner and deputy head of St Ives’ Business & Property team.
David is well respected for his experience and expertise in the commercial and residential property law.
He has a particular enthusiasm for disputes involving boundaries and easements, and has been involved in a huge number of trials in such cases, generally including detailed cross-examination of experts.
David is also known for his technical expertise in landlord and tenant matters. He is frequently instructed in matters concerning Landlord & Tenant Act 1954, the interpretation of covenants, forfeiture and dilapidations. Recently David has developed substantial experience advising on the impact of COVID in relation to commercial leases.
David is experienced in leasehold disputes in the Tribunal, including service charges, enfranchisement and lease extensions. This includes dealing with high value disputes relating to replacement of cladding on behalf of management companies, freeholders and leaseholders.
In social housing, David’s work involves complex trial advocacy as well as advising on policy and matters of public law. His grounding in property work allows him to deploy subtle and novel legal points to his cases.
