Deborah North’s practice focuses on a broad range of complex derivatives and structured finance matters. She advises on the transactional and the regulatory aspects, as well as the cross-border security arrangements, they often entail. Deborah supports her clients on a wide range of products including credit-linked notes, TRS, structured repos, and contingent credit default swaps transactions. She also advises on insurance-linked products and commodity derivatives including in the context of renewable energy. Her regulatory experience includes the advising on the design of credit default swap clearing, customer clearing and clearing house default management in Europe and in the US and the implementation of the swaps and security-based swaps regulatory regime introduced by the Dodd Frank Act. Her clients include sell side, buy side and end user firms as well, sovereign wealth funds, clearing houses and other market infra structure providers. She regularly advises ISDA, FIA, SIFMA and SIFMA AMG on comment letters and industry wide initiatives, including the recently implemented SEC Treasury Clearing Rule. She brings unique experience on the intricacy of different clearing models as well as challenges and solutions in industry documentation, having lead tech-enabled implementation projects for several large financial institutions. Additionally, Deborah has served the Market Risk Advisory Committee of the CFTC and advised the ARRC on regulatory matters associated with the transition away from LIBOR to risk free rates as well as serving on the board of Women In Financial Markets. Her transactional and regulatory derivatives experience she has been called upon by clients in the legal/tech and fintech space to create documentation frameworks and multi-jurisdictional regulatory analysis for their start-up offerings. Most recently she has advised ISDA, FIA and market participants on sustainability linked derivatives, the voluntary carbon markets and the transition to more sustainable finance generally.

Career

Deborah joined the firm as a partner in 2022 after more than two decades, including as a partner in London and New York of another firm.
