Trial lawyer and IP strategist Ellisen S. Turner is a partner in the Los Angeles office of Kirkland & Ellis. The former managing partner of Irell & Manella represents clients as lead trial lawyer and has helped clients secure victories in patent and trade secret litigations that led to billions in client compensation, while successfully defending matters with billions at stake. As a seasoned negotiator, he has closed numerous, complex IP licenses and technology transactions. He combines his business acumen with a deep understanding of IP law to support his clients’ business goals and maximize the value of their technology. Known for his sophisticated understanding of the high tech sector, he has represented leading companies across multiple technology and life sciences industries.

Beyond representing both plaintiffs and defendants in high-stakes litigation, Mr. Turner helps clients develop strategies to protect and monetize their tangible and intellectual assets. He counsels businesses on IP portfolio mining and development, licensing programs, and patent strategy. He also advises on IP commercialization and due diligence matters.

Mr. Turner earned his J.D. cum laude from the University of Michigan, and his B.S. in Computer Engineering and Computer Science magna cum laude from the University of Southern California.
