Emanuel van Praag is an expert in financial law. He advises financial institutions on how they can perform business whilst maintaining good relations with all their stakeholders (notably the Dutch Central Bank (DNB), the Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM), the ECB and the clients). He prepares the necessary documentation for this (such as policy documents and client contracts) and assists with the communication with the supervisory authorities.
Emanuel is a FinTech expert highly appreciated by clients for his practical approach. Because of his inhouse experience, he really understands what the client needs. As a professor he is well connected with regulators, industry bodies and policy makers, who also seek his views. He advises the European Commission as an independent expert on Open Finance and wrote a leading textbook on PSD2 and Open Banking on the invitation of the Dutch association for Financial Regulatory Law.
Career
Besides his role as counsel at Kennedy Van der Laan, Van Praag is a professor of Financial Technology and Law at Erasmus University Rotterdam, where he conducts research into big data, open banking and the payments industry (PSD2). Furthermore, MiFID I and II and AMLD V (crypto assets) belong to his specific areas of expertise.
